Fire simulation makes it possible to:
- provide computational evidence of the effectiveness of a smoke extraction concept in relation to the applicable guidelines;
- explore several technical options during a preliminary study in order to guide the development of a future smoke extraction system;
- combine an assessment of the smoke extraction solution being studied with a simulation of an evacuation plan.
What data can be obtained
through fire simulation?
The results of our fire simulations provide smoke concentration and temperature fields throughout the simulated building. This data is then used to assess compliance with fire safety objectives, particularly with regard to the so-called “low smoke density” air layer.
These results can also be coupled with evacuation simulations to measure the level of smoke exposure of people present in the building, in order to optimise the definition of an evacuation plan.
As part of a more in-depth analysis of the fire resistance of the simulated building, our expertise can be combined with that of civil engineers, with simulations making it possible in particular to provide the temperature fields to which the different materials are exposed during the fire.
